Our story
Hi, I’m the dad behind Baby Newt.
I’ve been building apps for years, and I studied math education, so I have some pedagogy training. When my daughter Lara was little, I went looking for apps for her and the ones we tried seemed built to take her focus and divide it between dancing critters, bright colours and the odd learning segment. They were too bright and too erratic for her, and the recurring costs didn’t make sense to me. So I started making slow, calm ones, with a promise: none of my apps will have a subscription. If there’s a premium version or an unlock, you buy it once.
My aim is a calm experience for a child, without dancing critters or colours that take over the screen.
The first was a black-and-white caterpillar for the floor-and-rattle moments of tummy time, because tummy time was hard for us too. That became Tummy Time.
Lara is older now, and she has opinions. So the next app, Lara’s Animal Flashcards, carries her name, and she helps test every version.
What we believe
Screens are part of family life now. We’d rather the few minutes a little one spends with one be calm, simple and worth something — with a parent right there.
- Calm by design. No flashing colours, no noisy rewards, no autoplay rabbit holes.
- Short and supervised. Our apps are made for a few minutes with you nearby, not for keeping children busy on their own.
- No subscriptions, in any of our apps. They’re free to download, and if there’s a premium version or an unlock, it’s a one-time purchase.
- Respect for your data. No accounts where we don’t need them. Tummy Time and our period tracker have no ads; our period tracker keeps your data on your phone.
- Honest about what an app can do. Our apps are simple tools for play and routines. They’re not medical devices, and they don’t replace your pediatrician.

- LFC — Lara’s Animal Flashcards — animal names spoken aloud in 8 languages, so little ones can play before they can read.
- Period tracker — private by default: no account, no ads, data stays on your phone.

Lara is part of our story, but not part of our marketing. You won’t find her photo, her surname or details about her anywhere on this site — just the apps she helps make.
