A flamingo card with three answer buttons, the hen highlighted as it is read aloud

“Can’t read yet? Why every animal name in LAFC is spoken aloud”

Most quiz games quietly assume your child can read the answers. Toddlers can’t — and they don’t need to.

Long before they read, little ones pick up words the way they pick up everything else: by hearing them again and again, in context, from people (and occasionally caterpillars) they like. “Flamingo” becomes a word because they heard it while looking at a very pink bird.

How LAFC does it

In LAFC — Lara’s Animal Flashcards, every animal name is spoken aloud.

  • In Learn mode, two cards appear and both names are said out loud before your child picks a favourite.
  • In Test mode, one animal appears and each of the answer buttons lights up as its name is spoken. Your child taps the one they heard that matches the picture.
Can't read yet? Doesn't need to.

A wrong answer is just another go

A wrong tap gets a friendly “try again” — no buzzer, no red cross, no drama. That matters more than it sounds: a game that feels safe to get wrong is a game they’ll come back to.

A hen? Nice try, grown-up.

Ways to play along

  • Say the name together after the app does, and make the animal’s sound
  • Ask “where’s the dog?” around the house afterwards
  • Switch the language for a round and learn the word together — LAFC speaks 8 languages

LAFC is free to download on iPhone, iPad and Android, with no ads.
